Presenting his signature embellishments including jeweled necklines, cuffs uplifted by gem appliqués, and of course, a few ostrich feathers for good measure, Matthew Williamson Resort 2014 collection recalls Arizona’s landscape to inform his designs. Palm leaves and cactus prints as well as hues that mimic the state’s natural features, appears on just about every look, including a silky T-shirt, a pleated chiffon gown, and even a cocoon dress with dropped shoulders.

The colors chosen resemble a Phoenix sunset in crack-of-dawn oranges and reds, but didn’t forget Williamson’s trademark midnight navy blues, rendering in on dresses and separates. Silhouettes are mostly kept simple, updated with embellishment, fringe, elegant drapery, or print. Hemlines are on the shorter side, although there are a few pencil skirts – with gently shimmering beaded embroidery or woven strips of matte-raffia stitching – of modest lengths presented. All in all, Williamson let color, dimension, and print take center stage.
