Known for her unique and outstanding creativity, the Greek designer, Mary Katrantzou presents her Resort 2016 Collection with rainbow colors across kaleidoscopic stripes and collaging layers of spliced blossoms with optic graphics and accordion pleats. A rainbow palette embraces just about every color from pink to red to violet, blue and green that beautifully presented in loose and flare silhouettes with lots of pleats and flared hemlines, mixed with a little touch of sporty elegance but still in feminine vibe.
Throughout the collection, we see combination between op art stripes and rich botanical drawings from the early 20th flower seed packets as the inspirations, which all are shown through prints of enlarged florals and shrubbery layered over bright colors with psychedelic waves. One dress in particular takes this inspiration literally, and comes out with a floor length crepe de chine fabric, a high collar with georgette ruffles and skirts pleated and pretty in green and black stripes.
Although the range features much simpler shapes than previous Katrantzou’s designs, most of the line-ups still stand out for Katrantzou’s striking way with bold colors and pattern combinations, that are contrasted with more minimal looks including a navy suit jacket, monochromatic separates and stark whites to break up the vibrant hues.
Not to mention, we can also notice how intricate Broderie anglaise appears collaged with floral prints, affirming the designer’s impeccable craftsmanship and eye for detail, while cotton shirt dresses and fluid skirts show the designer’s desire to work more daywear elements into her lineup. All in all, while Katrantzou is known for her bold colors and her use of prints, the new Resort 2016 collection is generally toned down, dedicated to those who prefer to wear high-end staples on a daily basis, as they walk about town or drink tea with a friend.
